DAY ONE

Today I officially started training for my first marathon that will be on October 16th.  For the first week I'm running the same route Mon-Sat, keeping up with my time so I can get a baseline of my average mile.  The route I'm running this week is 3.3 miles.

Today was my first go at it. Mentally, it was tough.  After getting home from the airport at 1:30am I was a little tired, and I felt like I needed to sweat, but wasn't.  I'll increase my water intake to see if this changes.  I ran in my Champion kicks today, and they killed my feet.  Tomorrow I'm going to sport my Nikes to see if they're more comfortable.

Day One= 3.3 miles in 28:45.04, averaging a 8:24 mile. Better than I expected, but I wasn't keeping a steady pace.  The start was moving along much quicker than the last mile.

Knowing and maintaing my pace is crucial for qualifying for the 2013 BM. Before Sept 2012, I'll need to complete a marathon with around a 9:30 min mile to even have a chance to make the cut.

For the rest of my training I am going to keep a weekly draft of my training throughout the week, and on Saturdays I will publish my training blog for the entire week, instead of posting it daily.

If any runners or trainers out there have any words of wisdom or advice or cirtiques of my training regiment please feel free to give it openly and honestly.

Here's to a good night's sleep in preparation for Day 2.

A little ambitious...

Day one of researching the the 2012 Boston Marathon, showed that I haven't allowed myself adequate time to train and qualify for it. So my new long term goal is the 2013 Boston Marathon. The first step in reaching this goal  is training to complete my first marathon on October 16, 2011.

I just registered for the Mount Desert Island Marathon!  (http://www.mdimarathon.org/)

A month ago I ran the New Bedford Half Marathon with my finace', Tom. I finished the race in 2 hrs and 10 min, averaging about a 10 minute mile.  In order to qualify for the BM 2013 I need to complete a certified marathon in under 3 hours and 45 minutes to have the greatest chance to make the cut.  I'm going to have to step up strong!

The Mount Desert Island Marathon will be my first attempt, and my goal will be to complete it (no time goal).  I'll use this finishing time as a baseline to how much i need to step it up for the BM.  I plan on completing the MDI marathon for my birthday this October, register for another one next spring 2012, and the a 3 attempt to qualify at the end of the summer of 2012.

Then in September of 2012 I will register for the 2013 Boston Marathon!

Training start date is still set for this upcoming Monday!  Here goes nothing (or everything).

Inspired.

Last Monday was the 2011 Boston Marathon.  Tens of thousands of runners trained day-in and day-out for nearly a year (or more) to be able to take on the extremely intense 26.2 mile race through and around the city of Boston. Tom and I took a trip into the city on Wednesday and the engery radiating from the marathon runners proudly sporting their dark grey and green marathon jackets was incredible.

I am inspired.  I will be a 2012 Boston Marathon runner.

This week I am researching and and establishing a training plan.  I will have one week short of a complete year to prepare myself mind and body for this undertaking. Starting Monday, April 25th, I will use this blog to track my training, vent my frustrations, voice my concerns, and share my celebrations. My blogs will openly and honestly share the good, the bad, and the ugly in order to hold myself accountable.

Step #1: Reading previous runner's blogs, training logs, and journals to figure out the plan of attack and how to get going.

Monday it begins.
